Change of Perspective

D17 Website Coordinator · May 19, 2026 · Leave a Comment

God, help me to see this situation, this person, this thought differently. Help me change my perspective. When I am angry, hurt, afraid, or resentful what might happen if I change my perspective? What happens if I see and act from a place of love?

Being open to see things from a new perspective can transform me and situations. A change in perspective ocurred when I heard, “It’s OK to love an alcoholic/addict.” It profoundly changed me. It freed me. I hadn’t realized until that moment that I was at war with myself because I was living my life governed by a false, unstated belief, the belief it wasn’t OK to love an alcoholic/addict. I thought I was flawed because I loved him. It was an epiphany that freed me from my internal war and allowed me the freedom to whole heartedly choose to love him, to show him I loved him, to be kind, compassionate and accepting of him no matter what state he was in. A change in perspective changed me and thus our relationship. I stopped trying to fix or change him. I learned to practice detachment with love.

I see changes in perspective as miracles that free me to be more loving and to become more the woman I am meant to be. I recognize my thoughts and vision can be narrow and inacccurate. If I am willing to listen for my Higher Power’s guidance, to see things in a different light or from a different angle I can change my perspective and see a new way to think or act. I can see another, better way. I am free to change.
