“This too shall pass” is one of my most favorite slogans; nothing is forever on earth.
In childhood I was taught that the nugget of God-Spirit within us will guide us through life and home to the bosom of God. This program has taught me the most precious gift we can give is our time and love.
I once went back to Kansas and went to an Al-Anon event with my mother and sister. I reluctantly agreed to go but only because they were going. When we arrived, I hesitated to even go inside. Then I saw a beautiful woman running around setting up lovely floral center pieces and I was drawn in. All the plants were from her garden! I went to her and expressed how exquisite her creations were and that I felt the love she hoped to bring to this occasion. As we chatted, she shared she was both a cancer nurse and that she was dying from ovarian cancer. She needed to go home at noon to rest.
This woman was physically beautiful and spiritually beaming. I knew God was present within her and very present at this event. I have felt it with dying patients before but not within me. I so wanted what she had. She was just glowing with the spirit of love and gifting all of us a beautiful way to say goodbye. Her message was one of love and beauty. I will never forget this gift and spiritual awakening. She died that week!
How precious her time was and yet she poured her love into those centerpieces at God’s direction and melted my resistance and fears. What a beautiful gift!
